George Kypridemos (BMus, MA, PhD) grew up in Cyprus. In 2013, they moved to Scotland, where they trained as a pianist at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland . They became a researcher in the fields of cultural production, improvisation and art praxis by pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Edinburgh.
As an artist, they integrate these experiences into a composite practice that seeks to bridge the gap between Western Art Music aesthetics and soundmaking as a world-building mechanic. In their view, to be a sonic artist in today's world means to act as a polymathic practitioner not defined by mastery of multiple domains, but by an ability to move between them, translate practices across contexts, and remain responsive to what each situation/space/community requires. In their practice, therefore, soundmaking is accompanied by community organising, writing, researching, and participating in collective life.
Additionally, they are an educator working in multiple contexts to deliver workshops, seminars and individual lessons in piano, music history, creative music practice, aesthetics, free improvisation and more.
